Lake Geneva has the busiest hospitality and retail door stock in the Wisconsin part of the area we serve: hotels, restaurants, shops, lakefront resort property and event venues. Doors there are judged by guests, so a closer that slams or an entrance that drags is a business problem, not just a maintenance one.
In a hospitality market, doors are part of the product. A guest forms an impression from the entrance, the lobby doors and the door to their room or the venue, and the same door that would be ignored in a warehouse is noticed immediately here. That raises the standard on adjustment as much as on hardware.
It also concentrates the wear. A hotel or restaurant entrance cycles thousands of times in a season, and the failures come in a consistent order: the closer loses its adjustment first, then the pivots wear, then the latch stops reaching its strike.
Hotel and resort entrance doors
A hotel entrance takes guests, luggage, deliveries and staff through the same opening all day. Heavy glass leaves on aluminum or steel framing are the norm, and the closer on that door is doing far more work than the same closer on an office entrance.
The practical failure at these properties is a closer that has been turned up to stop the door being held open, which then slams it, which loosens the frame and wears the latch. Restoring the opening means correcting the frame and pivot condition and then setting the closer for the leaf rather than for the complaint.
- Entrance and vestibule door repair on hotel and resort property.
- Closer replacement and adjustment sized for heavy glass leaves.
- Pivot, hinge and threshold repair.
- Glass replacement in entrance doors, sidelights and lobby glazing.
Restaurants and retail in the downtown
Downtown units have a single entrance each, usually glass in a storefront frame, and often a second door at the rear for deliveries. The trade is intense in season, and the rear door takes daily impact from stock and hand trucks.
A rear door that must be lifted to latch will be left unlatched, and an entrance that does not latch on release will eventually be propped. Both are inexpensive repairs that become expensive security problems if deferred.
Event venue and gathering space doors
Venues have an unusual door profile: long idle periods followed by heavy simultaneous use. Hardware stiffens when it is not used, and seals dry out, so the first event of a season is when latent faults surface.
Because these are public gatherings, the egress hardware on the doors matters as much as the entrance itself. Exit devices that do not release cleanly, or a door that cannot be opened without force, are a problem for a full room rather than for one person.
Rated doors in hospitality buildings
Hotels, restaurants and larger venues carry rated doors at stair enclosures, corridors and separations between occupancies. Those assemblies are often found propped or with closers disconnected because of airflow, deliveries or heat, and the protection they were installed for is absent while the door stands open.
Wisconsin adopts and amends its own building and fire codes and enforces them locally, so the requirement for a given opening comes from the authority having jurisdiction for its address. [Insert source: adopted Wisconsin code editions and local amendments for Lake Geneva]
Hours and 24-hour emergency call-out
Office hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 17:00, with Sunday closed. Emergency call-out is a separate service available 24 hours a day, including Sundays and holidays, for a door that has failed, been forced or will not secure.
Call (224) 833-4828 or (262) 277-9190, or email info@accuratecommercialdoors.com. For hospitality premises, work on an entrance is normally scheduled outside guest arrival and departure times.
